Not exactly, but if you’re looking to redecorate before hosting events this holiday season, now is the time to book your appointment.
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2018, but hitting the halfway mark means it’s time to start thinking about your holiday plans. Will you be traveling out of town, or hosting friends and family in your home? If the thought of hosting anyone in your home creates panic- we’ve all been there – it might be time to consider a redesign. There’s no better feeling than gathering with friends and family around the most wonderful time of the year, and having a fresh, new space to show off can make it all the more exciting. Here’s four reasons why July is the right time to start thinking about a redesign.
1. Great Design Takes Time.
If you’d like a redesign done in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas, it’s important to think about how long the design process alone takes. Typically, your designer will need 4-6 weeks at a minimum to prepare the perfect design for you. While this may not seem like too much time, this is just the design alone. After presenting the design, you’ll need to budget time for your designer to order your selections- and then you’ll have to wait for those selections to be shipped and delivered from their manufacturers. If you like unique or custom furniture, you’ll need to allow yourself an even greater window. Not to mention paint jobs, or other jobs, that will require labor.
2. If your designer has to go back to the drawing board, or reselect certain pieces, you’ll be glad you didn’t wait until the last minute.
Design is fluid. While rare, it is possible that you won’t totally love the direction your designer has taken, and that’s OK! However, if you’re unclear about what you want in the beginning, or you and your designer had some disconnects on what you were looking for, your designer may have to go back to the drawing board. If this happens, your estimated completion date may be pushed back, meaning your home may not be done in time for hosting guests this season.
3. Sh*t Happens.
Sorry to be blunt- but we all know to expect the unexpected at any point in our lives. Some things are simply out of our control, and we must be prepared to adjust accordingly when the time comes. For example, shipping delays happen – we once had an item get delayed three times before having to look elsewhere. Of course, right when we found a replacement the original arrived- again, it happens. Pieces can also arrive broken or damaged. If you go into your project knowing that things don’t always go according to your timeline, you’ll be much more prepared if the unexpected strikes.
4. Peace of Mind – Or, in some cases, your sanity.
The holidays, as joyous and wonderful as the time is, tend to be stressful in the weeks leading up. If you start your redesign plans now, you’ll allow yourself plenty of time to get through the process and get adjusted to your new surroundings. It also allows you to get back into your routine before friends and family come to- lovingly- disrupt that routine. You’ll have peace of mind in knowing that your greatest holiday preparation has already been taken care of.
